Joe Armstrong is a Humanist celebrant, chaplain and writer, accredited by the Humanist Association of Ireland and the General Registrar Office to conduct and solemnize legal Humanist weddings in the Republic of Ireland.

He is author of Men’s Health − the Common Sense Approach, Write Way to Stop Smoking, Workplace Stress in Ireland, The NUJ and Your Rights at Work, Mother Earth –  A Play for Children in Ten Scenes and joint author with Ian Montgomery of From Special Care to Specialist Treatment: A History of Muckamore Abbey Hospital.

An accredited journalist (NUJ) and former Chair of Irish PEN, he is a member of the Association of Freelance Editors, Proofreaders and Indexers (AFEPI). A former school teacher, he was managing editor for Ireland of Peter Lang international academic publishers, where he commissioned 85 books in three years and set up several successful series. He was a columnist for seven years with The Irish Times.
