In My Gut, I Don’t Believe: A Memoir
Author of the acclaimed memoir In My Gut, I Don’t Believe, the book shows Joe Armstrong struggling with his religious faith. He was raised a devout Catholic. He spent nine years studying for the Roman Catholic priesthood. Finally, he made the hardest and best decision of his life – leaving his priestly path for good. Moreover, he has transitioned from religious belief to non-believer, becoming a Humanist celebrant. He doesn’t believe in any god or afterlife. He says: ‘This is our one and only life. Live it well. Be happy!’

The podcast explores how he transitioned from religious faith to trusting his doubt.

A journalist accredited by the NUJ, Joe Armstrong is former Chair of Irish PEN. He is a member of the Association of Freelance Editors, Proofreaders and Indexers (AFEPI). He is a registered second-level school teacher in Ireland and the UK. Joe Armstrong is a former managing editor for Ireland of Peter Lang international academic publishers. There he commissioned 85 books in three years and set up successful series including the prolific Reimagining Ireland series.
